Punjab has a rich industrial base of MSME units belonging to bicycle parts, auto components, hosiery, sports goods and agricultural implements. Light Engineering is an important sector for the state with Jalandhar, Ludhiana, Patiala, Sangrur, Moda, Hoashiarpur and Mohali districts being host to thousands of light engineering companies. Punjab is also developing a new Industrail Esate at Nabha for light engineering and a Light Engineering Park along the Eastern Dedicated Frieight Corridor and the Amritsar Kolkata Industrial Corridor.

• About 90 per cent of total production of metal forming machines is from Baroda, Coimbatore, Batala, Jalandhar, Pune and Ludhiana.
• 1st in production of Machine Tools and Hand Tools in India accounting for 20% of India’s exports in the sector. Major products include wrenches, hand drills, pullers, vices, comprising lathes, shapers and milling machines.
• Presence of manufacturers across the value chain of Automobiles. Houses prominent suppliers to world renowned brands – BMW, FORD, Audi etc. Dominated by farm and commercial vehicle auto components like nuts, bolts, shafts, radiators and axles. • Almost 29% of India’s Tractor Production and 65% of North India’s Tractor production. India’s largest Tractor Manufacturing State and has the world’s largest integrated tractor manufacturing & export plant.
• 80% share of exports of bicycles from India and 92% of India’s total production of Bicycle parts. Punjab holds an annual export of approx. USD 1 Billion for Road Vehicles and Parts.
